October 7-11: Buses Replace 2 Midday Trains between Southampton and Montauk
Buses will replace two midday trains on the Montauk Branch between Montauk and Southampton from Monday, October 7 through Friday, October 11, as LIRR forces replace the bridges at Accabonac Road and North Main Street in East Hampton. Vehicle strikes to these two low-hanging, 125-year-old bridges have been the source of numerous service disruptions. The increased clearance of the new bridges will improve safety and service reliability. During this time we will perform additional maintenance work along the branch.
Service will be affected as follows:
The 8:55 AM train from Babylon to Montauk will terminate in Southampton. Customers will transfer to buses making all local stops to Montauk. Please allow up to 45 minutes of additional travel time.
The 11:32 AM train from Montauk to Jamaica will originate in Southampton. Customers will board buses at Montauk for stations Amagansett through Southampton where train service will resume. Buses will depart up to 45 minutes earlier than normal train times.
Please plan ahead: Look for more service changes on the Montauk Branch beginning Tuesday, October 15.
