Masks/Face Coverings Required – Fines to Encourage Compliance Begin Monday, September 14

For the continued health and safety of our customers and employees, masks/face coverings must be worn on LIRR property, including at stations and on trains. Masks/face coverings must completely protect your nose and mouth and must remain on for the duration of your travel. By now you've probably seen our yellow signs up across the MTA system and heard announcements telling you they are required.

Effective Monday, September 14, customers who refuse to wear a mask could be fined $50 by police. Enforcement officers will issue a fine as a last resort: they’ll first offer the passenger a free mask, and if they refuse, police may issue them a summons with a $50 fine.

Free masks are available at staffed LIRR Ticket Offices, and will be handed out by the “MTA Mask Force” at select locations.
