August 1-2: Westbound Trains To Bypass Kew Gardens & Forest Hills Stations
Woodside Station: Use First Two Cars to Enter/Exit Train
On the weekend of August 1-2, westbound trains will bypass Kew Gardens and Forest Hills Stations. At Woodside Station, temporary platforms will be in effect for westbound trains (except Port Washington Branch trains), and customers should be prepared to use the first two cars to enter/exit the train. In addition, some late Friday evening trains will be impacted by this track maintenance work.
As an alternative, NYC Transit will cross-honor LIRR tickets for Kew Gardens and Forest Hills customers. To have your ticket cross-honored, please use the main subway entrance, closest to the staffed station booth. See below for details.
Westbound Customers at Kew Gardens/Forest Hills:
- Take the / train at Kew Gardens/Union Tpke or the // train at Forest Hills/71st Av. Note: For customers traveling from these stations, unless you have a weekly or monthly ticket, it will be more economical to purchase a subway ride than buy a One-Way LIRR ticket for the purpose of cross-honoring.
- Overnight, from 1 AM – 5 AM: Take the free Q60 bus along Queens Boulevard heading towards East 60th Street/2 Avenue in Manhattan. For service to Penn Station, transfer to the free Q32 bus at Queens Plaza.
Westbound Customers traveling to/from Woodside:
You must be in the first two cars to exit at Woodside. If you are boarding at Woodside, follow the instructions of LIRR personnel on site, and board trains in the first two cars.
Westbound Customers traveling to Kew Gardens/Forest Hills from points east of Jamaica:
- At Jamaica Station, transfer to a Manhattan-bound train at the Sutphin Blvd/Archer Av/JFK Airport Station. For Kew Gardens, exit at Kew Gardens/Union Tpke; for Forest Hills, exit at Forest Hills/71st Av.
- Overnight, from 1 AM – 5 AM: Customers can either stay on an LIRR train to Penn Station and transfer to an eastbound train for service to Forest Hills and Kew Gardens, or exit westbound trains at Jamaica and transfer to a Manhattan-bound Q60 bus at the southeast corner of Sutphin Boulevard & Archer Avenue. The bus is free and will travel along Queens Boulevard, which is a short walk from the LIRR’s Kew Gardens and Forest Hills stations.
Eastbound service to Woodside, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens is unaffected.
For More Information: Contact the LIRR’s Customer Service Center by calling 511 or 718-217-LIRR (718-217-5477). Automated schedule information is available 24/7.
