Saturday, July 13: Port Washington Branch Service Reduced to Hourly
Buses Replace Trains between Great Neck & Port Washington
On Saturday, July 13, buses/vans will replace trains between Great Neck and Port Washington for sixteen hours to accommodate track testing. In addition, train service between Penn Station and Great Neck will be reduced from half-hourly to hourly from 12:17 AM to 4:53 PM -- on Saturday. To ensure the continuing track safety and reliability, rail testing will be performed using the Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow, self-propelled train car equipped with ultrasonic and induction test equipment. It is designed to detect internal rail defects that are not visible to the naked eye. Defects that are found will be corrected by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers.
