Platform Controllers

Platform Controllers are specially-trained conductors that help speed customer boarding so that trains can be on their way as quickly as possible.

Daily Duties
Platform Controllers:

  • Assist train crews in maintaining the scheduled movement of trains.
  • Assist customers in boarding and alighting safely
  • Encourage Customers to move to step aside to allow customers off the train first
  • Encourage Customers to move to the center of the car and not block doorways
  • Encourage customers to spread out along the entire length of the platform
  • Discourage Customers from holding train doors
  • Alert Customers that doors are closing through the use of whistles and announcements
  • Assist customers with ensuring their bags and belongings are clear of the closing doors
  • Provide Customers with travel information



Keep The Doors Clear So Others Can Board

Assignments

Platform Controllers are assigned to critical subway station locations.  While personnel are still being added, Platform Controllers are now in place at 15 stations in the system. We expect to be at full-strength by the end of 2017. Platform Controllers are assigned to these stations:
