Cuomo announces May 30 Restoration of Service

The Rockaway Flats: Sandy Damage and Recovery

Before Superstorm Sandy, subway service along the Rockaway Flats rail line carried some 30,000 riders per day between Howard Beach, Queens and the Barrier Island known as the Rockaways. After the storm, Sandy's devastation to the subway infrastructure was revealed, stretching over some 3.6 miles south of the Howard Beach Station/North Channel Bridge extending to the Hammels Wye Station/ South Channel Bridge. Now, in addition to restoring the completely flooded Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Broad Channel stations, the determination and commitment to fix and fortify this mainline connection over the past seven months brings A line icon and S line icon service, and a direct rail link to Manhattan, back to our customers.
