Select Bus Service
There are two ways to pay before you board the SBS:
1. MetroCard Fare Payment
MetroCard (Value or Time),
Reduced-Fare MetroCard, transfers,
single-ride tickets, and Student MetroCard (but NOT Half-Fare Student
MetroCard).
- Press the start button.
- Insert your MetroCard, transfer or ticket face up into the slot.
- Your SBS paper ticket will be issued automatically.
Paying for more than one person:
Only a value-based MetroCard can be used to pay the fare for more
than one person. Insert the MetroCard into the machine up to four
times for a maximum of four people, and SBS paper tickets will be
issued for each person.
Transferring to another SBS bus:
You must obtain a new ticket before you board. At the next SBS bus
stop, insert the same MetroCard you used to pay for your previous trip
and a new ticket will be issued. Multiple tickets will be issued if a
value-based MetroCard was used to pay for more than one
person.You must obtain a new ticket before you board.

No dollar bills, pennies, or half-dollars accepted.
Full-Fare Customers:
- Press the start button.
- Insert exact fare in coins; if you overpay, no change will be returned.
- Your SBS paper ticket will be issued automatically.
Reduced-Fare Customers and Half-Fare Student MetroCard users:
- Press yellow button to first.
- Insert exact fare in coins; if you overpay, no change will be returned.
- Your SBS paper ticket will be issued automatically.
To CANCEL the transaction, turn the red knob before you finish despositing your last coin.
Transfers:
Board at the front of the bus and request a transfer from the bus operator.
Use your transfer for other local and limited routes, but to transfer
insert your SBS transfer into the MetroCard Fare Collector at the bus
stop where you plan to board; a ticket will be issued automatically.
Note: The maximum number of coins accepted for one fare is 25.
