New fares take effect June 28, 2009

New Grace Period and Refund Information for Unlimited MetroCard

Grace Period

To get all the days you are entitled to, Unlimited Ride MetroCards purchased before June 28 must be used for the first time no later than July 6, 2009.

The following grace periods apply to Unlimited Ride MetroCards purchased before June 28:

1-Day Fun Pass: valid through July 6
7-Day: valid through July 12
14-Day: valid through July 19
30-Day: valid through August 4
7-Day Express Bus Plus: valid through July 12

Refunds

For unused or partially used Unlimited Ride MetroCards purchased prior to the June 28 fare change, refunds will be made on a pro-rated basis. Ask for a postage-paid envelope at your station booth to return your card.

  • Base fare increases to $2.25.
  • Base express bus fare increases to $5.50.
  • On Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard, an additional 15% is added to card with the purchase or addition of $8 or more.
  • Initial Pay-Per-Ride minimum purchase remains $4.00.
  • Unlimited ride cards will increase to:
    • 1-Day Fun Pass: $8.25.
    • 7-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard: $27.
    • 14-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard: $51.50.
    • 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard: $89.
  • Cost of 7-Day Express Bus Plus MetroCard will increase to $45.

Transfer policies and senior citizen/disabled/student reduced fare discount policies will not change.
