Pension Credit For Prior Police Service

Police Officers with the MTA Police Department participate in the MTA 20-Year Police Retirement Program. Under the MTA Police Program, you will only receive pension credit for prior police service which can be transferred from the New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System or from the New York City Police Pension Fund, subject to certain conditions, or you can purchase prior police service with the New York City Transit Authority Police Department

Please note the following provisions:

  1. MTA Police Officer will NOT receive credit for prior police service until he/she has completed 15 years of MTA Police Service (excluding prior Military Service)
  2. All employee contributions must be transferred from the prior plan, and if the police officer took a refund of employee contributions then all contributions plus 5% interest must be paid
  3. Other provisions apply
