Poet Bio

Jean Valentine's most recent book is Shirt in Heaven (Copper Canyon, 2015). In 1965 she won the Yale Younger Poets Award for her first book, Dream Barker, and in 2004 she won the National Book Award for Door in the Mountain: New & Collected Poems. She was the State Poet of New York from 2008 to 2010. The recipient of the 2009 Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets, she lives in New York City. She has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, the Graduate Writing Program of New York University, Columbia University, and the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan.

Artist Bio

Cara Lynch is a visual artist workingin sculpture, print, and public installation. She has completed a number of large-scale public projects around the New York area. She has recently completed projects for NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, NYC Department of Transportation, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. At Ditmas Ave in Brooklyn, Inheritance: In Memory of American Glass celebrates the vast diversity of people and cultures in the Kensington neighborhood. Lynch was inspired by the decorative elements in household glassware that was mass-produced and widely available during the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, the same period when Brooklyn neighborhoods were developing rapidly and subway stations were being built.
