New Haven Trains Operating through Stamford – Anticipate Delays Due to PTC Software Upgrades- Effective Jan. 20, 2021 – 3rd Q 2021

Effective Jan. 20, 2021 through the 3Q of 2021, customers should anticipate scattered delays and some trains taken out of service on the New Haven Line at Stamford as we continue to fine tune and upgrade recently installed Positive Train Control software.

We had anticipated that we would be experiencing some growing pains with the recently-installed New Haven Line PTC software, now that we are running all trains in full PTC. We are diligently working to upgrade the software so that we can improve the reliability of our service. PTC has greatly enhanced the overall safety of Metro-North service, and when any sort of PTC-related software anomaly is experienced on trains operating through Stamford, the consist is taken out of service to determine the cause.

Metro-North is working actively to mitigate the impact to our customers by having a replacement train at the station ahead of the train’s arrival, so we can minimize the delay as customers transfer and continue on to their destination.

We apologize for the inconvenience and delays while we continue to fine tune this important safety system. Metro-North has a team actively working with the vendors involved in efforts to eliminate these software issues. This process is expected to continue through the third quarter of 2021.
