What is Group Travel?
A travel program that offers substantially reduced fares for organized groups of 10 or more people traveling together on Metro-North trains.

What is the savings?
You can save up to 50%.   Group Travel fares cannot be combined with other discounts.

When is Group Travel VALID?
The Group Travel discount is valid on off-peak trains only (weekdays and weekends).  The group travel discount is not valid on weekday trains scheduled to arrive into Grand Central Terminal (GCT) between 5 AM and 10 AM, depart GCT between 5 AM and 9 AM & 4 PM and 8 PM.  Restrictions also apply on major holidays.

Do I need a reservation for Group Travel?
A reservation is required in order to purchase your Group Ticket. Once your reservation request has been received, the Group Travel Department will review your request.  If your request is approved, a Confirmed Reservation will be e-mailed to you.  Reserving a group trip does not guarantee your group will sit together.

When should I make my Group Travel Arrangements?
We require that you provide us with your Group Travel arrangements at least two (2) weeks prior to your travel date.  For large sized groups, at least four (4) weeks notification is requiredGroup Travel reservation requests must be made online (go to www.mta.info/mnr).  If you have any question, you may e-mail us at groupsales@mnr.org or call us by dialing 511 (say: MTA, Metro-North Railroad, more options, Group Sales).  From Connecticut, dial 877/690-5114.

How may I purchase my Group Ticket?
Group tickets are sold only at available Metro-North station ticket offices.  In order to receive the group discount you must bring your Confirmed Reservation with you to present to the ticket seller.  A ticket seller will only sell you a group ticket if you have your Confirmed Reservation from our office.  Please note that Group Tickets are not available for purchase at Ticket Vending Machines--you must go to an available ticket office to purchase the group ticket.

What number may I call to speak with someone about Group Travel? Reservation requests must be made online.  However, if you have a question concerning Group Travel, a representative can be reached by dialing 511 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  From Connecticut, please dial 877-690-5114.  From other areas, dial 877-6990-5116.  If you need to leave a message, please provide us with as much information as possible regarding your trip.

Group Travel Restrictions?
MTA Metro-North Railroad reserves the right to establish which trains have excess capacity to handle groups and the rules for Group Travel safety.  The sale of any Group ticket includes no assurance of a seat on a particular train.  Groups will not be reserved:

Is my Group Ticket Refundable?
All refund requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and is subject to a $10 processing fee.  Approved refunds will be processed in accordance to Metro-North’s refund policy.  Partial refunds will not be issued for a reduction in group size or additional one-way/round-trip tickets purchased.  For refund consideration, the Group Travel Department must be notified immediately of cancellations (at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled group trip).  All refund requests require submission in writing and must include the original unused ticket with a copy of the Confirmed Reservation.  Mail to: MTA Metro-North Railroad, 89 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017, Attn: Group Travel
