Manitoga Dragon Rock Tour

The experience

Located in Garrison, New York, one hour north of NYC, Manitoga is the home, studio and 75-acre woodland garden of American industrial designer Russel Wright (1904-1976). Famous for his stylish and affordable products for the home at mid-century, Wright was a leading advocate for American design and our natural environment. A National Historic Landmark, Manitoga is one of the few modernist sites with original landscape open to the public.

Manitoga Dragon Rock Tour

Tour Dragon Rock, Wright's experimental home which he built into the rock ledge of an abandoned stone quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight. Visitors take a moderate hike around Quarry path, enjoying stunning views of the House and Studio, an ascending stone staircase, a field of mountain laurel, and exquisite moss rooms before crossing over a majestic waterfall to Dragon Rock. Interior spaces are defined by expanses of glass, innovative modern materials, Japanese influences, and seamless connections to outside terraces.
