"Be TrainSmart" Safety Campaign - Phase
"Watch Your Step! " on Escalators is MTA LIRR's
Lastest Safety Tip
MTA Long Island Rail Road is reminding customers to take precautions when boarding or exiting station escalators. The safety tip is the latest focus of the Railroad's year-long public service campaign, Be TrainSmart ... Tune In To Safety!
"Watch Your Step!" the title of a new brochure being distributed on trains, covers all you need to know about navigating escalators. The message is also featured in an on-board poster campaign.
The campaign stresses that an escalator may seem like a harmless convenience, but accidents can cause serious injury as well as damage to clothing and property.
Important safety tips include reminders to grasp the handrail, stand in the middle of the step, hold children firmly by the hand and keep hands, feet and clothing clear of moving parts. Another important warning to customers is: don't read your e-mail or send text messages while riding on escalators.
Don’t take strollers, bikes, carts, large packages or luggage on escalators–instead use an elevator if available, or stairs.
