LIRR Hicksville Station to Undergo Major Renovations
The MTA Long Island Rail Road is continuing its investment in Long Island’s future with the Hicksville Station Improvements Project. Major renovation work began in September 2016 and is scheduled to conclude in the summer of 2018.The project, funded through the MTA LIRR Capital Improvement Program, as part of a $122M investment in Hicksville infrastructure, includes the following amenities:
- Replacement of the 12-car elevated platforms
- New translucent platform canopy
- New heated platform waiting rooms
- Addition of two new elevators
- Replacement of existing escalators
- Replacement of existing staircases
- Addition of two new staircases
- Energy-efficient platform lighting
- New security and communication systems
- New signage
How will this impact your commute?
The LIRR will maintain train service at Hicksville throughout the project. However, some schedules, along with track and platform assignments for departing and arriving trains, will change as the work progresses to accommodate construction. Customers are advised to listen for announcements.
Weekday commuter parking availability will not be adversely affected. On weeknights and weekends, there will be fewer parking spaces in order to accommodate the staging of construction materials/equipment.
Allow Extra Travel Time & Listen for Announcements
While the work is underway, Hicksville customers should allow extra travel time to access the active portion of the platform when boarding trains. Announcements will be made directing customers to the proper platform and track for boarding trains during each phase of this project.
